Syllabus Comparison — SBL → S2

ChangeArea / TopicDetail
ELEVATEDProject management → standalone Section ISBL H6 "Leading and managing projects" was one of six subsections within the large Section H. In S2 it becomes Section I in its own right. Content unchanged but the structural elevation signals increased exam prominence and dedicated marking weight.
REMOVEDOther employability and digital skills (SBL Section J)SBL Section J (J1–J4: computer technology use, exam navigation, data presentation) no longer appears as a formal syllabus section. These skills are addressed in exam approach guidance rather than as assessable outcomes.
NEWSustainability in strategic planning (C1c)Explicit outcome: evaluate sustainability in strategic planning and how sustainable practices can be embedded in organisational strategy. SBL C1 covered only the Johnson/Scholes/Whittington model and the fundamental importance of strategy — no sustainability outcome.
NEWEnvironmental and climate-related risks (D1)Environmental and climate-related risks now explicitly named as a category within D1 (identification, assessment and measurement of risk). SBL D1c covered "key risks" generically without singling out climate/environmental risks.
NEWSustainability data systems (E1)New outcome in E1: assess how sustainability data systems and technology can support environmental and sustainability reporting and management. Extends the cloud/technology subsection with a sustainability data angle not present in SBL E1.
NEWEnvironmental and sustainability audits (F2)Environmental and sustainability audits now explicitly included in F2 (audit and compliance). SBL F3 mentioned "environmental and sustainability audits" only in the context of management reporting content; in S2 they appear in audit and compliance itself.
NEWSustainable business model (G2f)New outcome in G2: assess the sustainable business model and evaluate how financial decisions can support long-term sustainability objectives. SBL G2 covered investment appraisal, finance sources, KPIs and ratios — no sustainable business model outcome.
RENUMBEREDProfessional skills: Section I → Section JProfessional skills move from Section I in SBL to Section J in S2 as a result of project management taking Section I. Content (communication, commercial acumen, analysis, scepticism, evaluation) and intellectual levels are identical.
RetainedAll SBL A–H content (minus project management from H)Leadership (A), Governance (B), Strategy (C), Risk (D), Technology (E), Organisational control (F), Finance (G) and Enabling success/change management (H, minus H6) are all retained. Models including Cultural Web, Mendelow, PESTEL, Porter's Diamond, Porter's Five Forces, Porter's Value Chain, BCG, Ansoff, TARA, ALARP, four lines of defence, COSO, POPIT, Baldrige, Harmon's process-strategy matrix, Lewin's three-stage model, Balogun and Hope Hailey, ICGN Global Governance Principles and the 6 Is of e-marketing are all present in S2.
RetainedExam formatFormat identical to SBL: 3hr 15min (includes reading, planning and reflection time used flexibly); 100% integrated case study; pre-seen released 2 weeks before sitting; 3 tasks; all compulsory; 80 technical + 20 professional skills marks.
