AI Tools for Accountants and Finance Students
Accountants use AI today for three jobs: analysing and drafting (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot), researching standards and regulation with sources (NotebookLM, Perplexity), and automating routine finance work (n8n). Below are the tools covered in our AI in Finance course — free for every ACCA, CMA US and Dip IFRS student — and what each is good for.

AI in finance: common questions
Which AI tools should an accountant learn first?
Start with a general assistant (ChatGPT or Claude) for drafting and analysis, Microsoft Copilot inside Excel for modelling, and NotebookLM for working through accounting standards. Add a research tool with citations, such as Perplexity, once you are comfortable.
Is it safe to put client data into AI tools?
Not into public chat tools. Remove or anonymise client data first, follow your firm's policy, or run a model locally (for example with LM Studio) so the data stays on your machine.
Will AI replace ACCA or CMA professionals?
It is changing the work rather than replacing it: routine reconciliation, drafting and research get faster, while judgement, ethics, communication and accountability stay with the professional. Knowing the tools is becoming part of the job.
